Are your crendtials up to date?

Here’s a breakdown of the typical training frequency for each type of training:

  • Supervisor Training: Refresher training for supervisors responsible for overseeing employees subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing is typically required every three years. This ensures that supervisors stay up-to-date on recognizing signs of drug and alcohol use, addressing suspected violations of DOT regulations, and maintaining compliance with testing procedures.

  • Designated Employer Representative (DER) Training: Refresher training for DERs, who are responsible for managing the employer’s drug and alcohol testing program, is also typically required every three years. This training ensures that DERs remain knowledgeable about their responsibilities, testing procedures, recordkeeping requirements, and communication protocols.

  • Reasonable Suspicion Training: Refresher training for individuals designated to make determinations of reasonable suspicion is also generally required every three years. This training ensures that these individuals stay current on recognizing behaviors or physical characteristics that may indicate drug or alcohol use, documenting observations accurately, and initiating testing procedures when reasonable suspicion exists.
