Drug Testing β€” Frequently Asked Questions

What to bring, what to expect at the collection site, and how laboratory results are processed.

After you complete your order, you will receive a Donor Pass with the selected collection-site information. Bring the Donor Pass and an acceptable photo ID with you when you go for testing.
Before Your Test
What do I need to bring to the collection site?

Bring your Donor Pass and a valid photo ID. The Donor Pass contains the information the collection site needs to locate your electronic order.

Keep the Donor Pass available on your phone or bring a printed copy.

Do I need an appointment?

Many collection sites accept walk-ins, but policies and hours can vary by location. Review the site information shown when you place your order. If the location indicates that an appointment is required, contact the site before going.

Can I go to a different collection site?

Your order is scheduled to the collection site you selected. If you need to change locations, contact us before presenting for the test so the order can be properly redirected.

Do I need to fast or stop taking my medications?

Routine urine drug testing generally does not require fasting. Do not stop or change a prescribed medication unless your healthcare provider tells you to do so.

If laboratory findings require medical review, a Medical Review Officer may contact you privately to discuss a legitimate prescription or other medical explanation.

Should I drink extra water before the test?

Normal hydration is best. Excessive fluid intake immediately before a urine collection can produce a dilute specimen and may require additional follow-up or recollection.

At the Collection Site
What happens during a urine drug-test collection?

The collector verifies your identity and order information, explains the collection procedure, and provides instructions for supplying the urine specimen. The specimen is then prepared and documented for secure shipment and laboratory testing.

Collection procedures are designed to maintain specimen identity, security, and chain of custody throughout the process.

What drugs are included in my test?

The substances tested depend on the panel you selected. On this ordering page, use View Drugs Included under a test before ordering to see the substances included in that specific panel.

Is a urine alcohol test the same as a breath alcohol test?

No. A urine panel that includes alcohol is a laboratory urine test. It is different from a breath-alcohol test and should not be interpreted as a breath alcohol concentration result.

Laboratory & Result Processing
Where is my specimen tested?

Your specimen is sent to a professional certified laboratory for testing. The laboratory performs the appropriate screening and, when required, confirmation testing before a final result is reported.

How are drug-test results processed?

The laboratory first performs the initial drug screen. If the specimen is negative, the result can generally move through the reporting process without additional confirmation testing.

If the initial screen is non-negative, the laboratory performs additional confirmatory testing for the substance or substances involved before a final positive result is reported.

Does a non-negative screen automatically mean I failed?

No. An initial non-negative laboratory screen is not necessarily the final result. Additional confirmation testing may be performed, and a Medical Review Officer may need to review the result before a final determination is released.

What is a Medical Review Officer (MRO)?

A Medical Review Officer is a licensed physician responsible for reviewing certain drug-test results. When appropriate, the MRO may contact the donor confidentially to determine whether there is a legitimate medical explanation, such as a valid prescription, before the final result is released.

What if I take a prescription medication?

Take your medications as prescribed. You generally do not need to explain your medications to the collection-site staff. If a result requires medical review, the MRO may contact you directly and may request information needed to verify a valid prescription.

Respond promptly to any MRO outreach so the review can be completed.

How long do urine drug-test results take?

Many negative urine drug-test results are reported within 1–2 business days after the laboratory receives the specimen, although timing can vary.

If the specimen requires confirmation testing and/or Medical Review Officer review, the final result can take several additional business days. A typical non-negative review may take approximately 3–5 business days or longer depending on the testing and review required.

How will I receive my Donor Pass?

Once your order is completed, your Donor Pass is displayed on the confirmation screen so you can open, print, or save it. A copy is also sent to the donor email address entered with the order.

What if I do not receive the Donor Pass email?

First check your spam or junk folder and confirm that the email address entered on the order is correct. You can also open, print, or save the Donor Pass directly from the order-complete screen.
